Tribute to Clarisse Orniacki

It is with infinite sadness that we learned of the passing of Clarisse Orniacki.

Clarisse, a master student from Magistère de Génétique, joined the lab “Non-Conventional Functions of Nuclear Pores”as a doctoral student and successfully defended her thesis in December 2022. She was a young woman full of life, motivated, determined, brilliant, committed, but also modest and discreet, with a promising future ahead of her.

After studying nuclear pores and their role in neuronal differentiation, Clarisse pursued her career with a postdoc at McGill University in Montreal, where she focused on the role of lysosomal proteins in Parkinson’s disease.

She fought cancer, which was discovered shortly after she arrived in Canada, undoubtedly with the same energy she put into her work. But after a period of remission, a sudden relapse struck her down.

Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, loved ones, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
