Institut Jacques Monod Seminar – Nicolas Solers

11 May 2026 - 14 h 00 min - 15 h 00 min

Invited by the Institut Jacques Monod, Nicolas Solers (Dynamique des génomes et adaptation microbienne (DynAMic) Université de Lorraine – UMR INRAE 1128 Faculté des Sciences et Technologies ) will present an Institut Jacques Monod seminar on the theme:

Playing with ICE and Fire: DNA replication and horizontal gene transfer in Gram+ Bacteria and hyperthermophilic Archaea

Abstract:

As a molecular microbiologist, my research focuses on various aspects of DNA metabolism. I previously worked on newly discovered plasmids in hyperthermophilic archaea, with a particular focus on their replication proteins. Currently, I study the first steps of bacterial conjugation driven by relaxase proteins encoded by Integrative and Conjugative Elements (ICEs) that are widespread in genomes of Gram-positive bacteria. The relaxosome complex is known to initiate rolling-circle replication. In line with the professor position in genome stability currently open at IJM, I aim to establish Sulfolobus as a hyperthermophilic archaeal model for studying DNA replication within Jean-Charles Cadoret’s team. I will discuss why this model is especially relevant given the many eukaryotic-like features it shares with eukaryotes.
