Institut Jacques Monod scientific clubs
To promote scientific exchange within the Institut Jacques Monod, scientific clubs have been set up to organize meetings and encourage discussion of results, methods and prospects in their respective fields of research.
The transdisciplinary nature of the clubs and the participation of people from different scientific backgrounds make them excellent opportunities for fruitful and original scientific exchanges.
These clubs meet on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Participation in these “clubs” is open to all members of the Institut Jacques Monod and, in some cases, to colleagues from other laboratories.
In September 2008, Véronique Brodu founded the “Cytoskeleton Club” to bring together different laboratories in and around Paris, around the common research theme of the Cytoskeleton. The club brings together 42 teams from 18 research institutes, representing some 300 people. A wide variety of model organisms, biological systems and experimental approaches are represented.
Club Cytoskeleton meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 9:30 am, alternating between the Institut Jacques Monod, the Institut Pasteur and the Institut Curie. During these monthly meetings, two or three speakers present their recent work.
What’s more, since 2020, with Antoine Jégou and Guillaume Romet-Lemonne, who co-lead the “Regulation of actin assembly dynamics” group at our institute, we have been organizing the “Paris Cytoskeleton Day”, a full-day conference. On this occasion, two keynote speakers working in Europe are invited, as well as various national speakers. Oral communications and posters are also selected from abstracts submitted by participants.
The YSC is a club of young scientists of the Institut Jacques Monod. Its goal is to contribute to the scientific life of the institute by promoting intellectual exchanges and highlighting the work of young scientists such as PhD students, engineers and Post Docs.
The YSC organize short lunch conferences on regular basis, as well as additional events such as the IJM scientific day and newcomer parties. We are open to external collaborations and occasionally host joint events with young scientists from other institutes.
The fly/worm club brings together researchers from IJM and BFA working on Drosophila flies and Caenorhabditis elegans. Each month a person presents their work and discuss their latest findings over pizzas. The fly/worm club provides a collaborative and relaxed environment for scientists to learn more about each other, share methodologies, and explore interdisciplinary approaches to advance our understanding of these model organisms. The meeting aims to foster collaboration, inspire innovative research, and address common challenges in Drosophila and C. elegans research.
Frequency of the meeting: monthly
The iPOP-UP BioInfo Club gathers scientists who want to discover some computational approaches and tools used in genomics, image and structural bioinformatics and to learn by practice on site. The iPOP-UP BioInfo Club includes Institut Jacques Monod (IJM), Epigenetics & Cell Fate unit (EPC), Unité de Biologie Fonctionnelle et Adaptative (BFA) and Institut Cochin.
The list of future seminars is here.

The iPOP-UP BioInfo Club meets about once a month on Tuesday from 12:30am to 1:30pm, either in François Jacob seminar room (Institut Jacques Monod, 15 rue Helene Brion 75013) or in room RH73 (Bâtiment Lamarck, 35 rue Hélène Brion 75013). Attending via zoom is possible for people working at Institut Cochin. Meetings are in English. A light snack is provided. For most sessions, please bring your drink and your laptop. It can be Linux, Mac or Windows. We will let you know in advance when it is a practical session, presentation or discussion.
Note: the BioInfo Club sessions previously organized by Michael Lang (in 2014-2015), Virginie Courtier and colleagues (in 2011-2014 and 2018-2020) can be found here.
