Award for Major French Advances in Biology

The Institut Jacques Monod (CNRS | Université Paris Cité ) is proud to announce that Andreas SCHOENIT, a doctoral student in the “Cell Adhesion and Mechanics” laboratory, is the winner of the Mergier Bourdeix Foundation’s French Breakthroughs in Biology award!

Andreas Schoenit, together with Benoît Ladoux and René-Marc Mège, is interested in the role of mechanical forces in the construction and maintenance of epithelial tissues. Forces such as pressure play an important role in tissue formation. Once formed, tissue health and function are maintained by quality control mechanisms that can eliminate non-functional, diseased, or infected cells.

This award was presented to him by the Academy of Sciences at a ceremony on October 28, 2025. The Academy of Sciences invites young researchers or young researchers/first authors who have contributed to major scientific advances in biology to present their results to the Academy of Sciences at a public session. The winners will each receive a prize (€2,500) donated by the Mergier Bourdeix Foundation.
