SUMMARY:Séminaire IJM - Alexander Palazzo
DESCRIPTION:Invité par l’équipe Palancade\, Alexander Palazzo (Biochemistry Department\, University of Toronto / Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Science Numérique\, Université Paris-Saclay) présentera un séminaire IJM sur le thème : \nHow mRNA nuclear export allows you to live with a genome filled with junk DNA \n  \nRésumé : \nIn eukaryotes\, the division of the cellular space into nucleoplasm and cytoplasm promotes quality control mechanisms that promote both the nuclear export of mRNAs and the nuclear retention and degradation of misprocessed mRNAs and junk RNAs. I will talk about our latest efforts to identify features that promote either export\, retention and/or decay of different classes of RNAs. I will also discuss how GC-content\, an important export-promoting feature in human protein-coding mRNAs\, is being shaped by non-adaptive evolutionary processes.

SUMMARY:Séminaire IJM – Arnaud Echard
DESCRIPTION:Invité par l’équipe Pintard\, Arnaud Echard (Institut Pasteur) présentera un séminaire IJM sur le thème : \nCell division: the final cut \n  \nRésumé : \nWe are interested in one of the most fundamental questions in biology: How a cell divides into two daughter cells. We particularly focus on cytokinesis\, the last step of cell division leading to the physical separation of a mother cell into two independent daughter cells. Cytokinesis failure causes microcephaly and can favor tumor development\, likely being responsible for 40 to 60% of human carcinomas. \nOur lab addresses three main questions: \n\nHow are the different components of the cytoskeleton dynamically remodeled during the late steps of cytokinesis?\nWhat are the molecular mechanisms and pathways that drive abscission?\nCan we discover new mechanisms involved in viral budding inspired by our findings in cytokinetic abscission?\n\nIn this seminar\, I will present how our proteomic analysis of midbodies —the central part of the bridges connecting dividing cells— led us to propose that branched F-actin unexpectedly controls the timely and local disassembly of microtubules required for cytokinetic abscission.

SUMMARY:Séminaire IJM – Anaïs Bardet
DESCRIPTION:Invité par l’équipe Gazave\, Anaïs Bardet (CNRS\, IGBMC\, Strasbourg)\, présentera un séminaire IJM sur le thème : \nTranscription factor sensitivity to DNA methylation \n  \nRésumé : \nMulticellular organisms establish and maintain different transcriptional states in disparate cell types through complex and specific regulation of gene expression. This regulation is mediated by the cooperative binding of transcription factors to regulatory elements through the recognition of specific DNA sequence motifs. Additionally\, the physical access of transcription factors to DNA can be modulated by epigenetic regulation\, such as DNA methylation or nucleosome positioning. Failure to maintain this tight regulation of gene expression results in various diseases including cancer. We use both computational and experimental approaches and integrate genomic data to study transcription factor binding and its regulation in cellular systems.
