July 2012: Alessandra Pierani has been awarded the "grand prix Foulon" of the Académie des sciences

Alessandra Pierani is responsible for the group Genetics and Development of the Cerebral Cortex at the Institut Jacques Monod

The Académie des sciences is one of the 5 Académies that together constitute the Institut de France.

The Academy is an independent, durably established institution, the primary aim of which is to encourage science and contribute to the advancement of the sciences and their applications:
- by studying social questions associated with the development of the sciences and formulates advice and recommendations,
- by being involved in the development of international scientific relations
- by monitoring the quality of the teaching of the sciences and works to ensure that the products of scientific development are integrated into contemporary culture,
- by encouraging the dissemination of science to the public at large.
